Magazine Cover

As part of our final project, we had to create a cover to our publication titled "Wanderer." I was torn between the two photos so I did both covers. I still really like the photo of the girl in the crosswalk it is a nice shot and she is in motion, however, I think the aerial view of the coast of Peru is more appropriate as a finished project for the publication. It shows the coast and the water, as well as the city-esque buildings. I think the coastline photo would be most effective if we could make the paragliders stand out more in the headline. They are a little hard to see now.

Final Project

For our final project we were to create a 2-page spread with a story provided to us. My story was about a neighborhood called Barranco and two street performers there. I chose colorful photos that I felt best displayed the neighborhood. I also added a little bit of color to the page, but stuck with earth tones so it was not too flashy or busy.

Photo Restoration

For this assignment, we had to take an original photo and restore it. I am not the best at photoshop so this assignment was challenging. I worked with the stamp tool to get rid of some of the blotches as well the scratches across the photo. I added more saturation to the photo because the original color was a little dull. I also took the bottom right corner of the photo and brightened it to match the rest of the picture. The first photo is the restored version and the bottom is the original photo.

Logo

This assignment was to create a logo for the title of a student magazine called Wanderer. We had to play with fonts and kerning for the best outcome. I posted four different styles. The first one is what is most commonly seen on the cover of magazines but for the type of publication we would be working on, I like the last one on the page. The "a" is a little lower than the rest of the letters, sort of a play on the word "wanderer"

Infographic Cancun

For our infographic project, I decided to place a beach photo over the box to make it a little more interesting for readers. It was a bit of a challenge to lighten portions of the picture because the contrast clashed with the text.

Love in Shapes and Colors

For the emotion "Love" I wanted to show two different concepts while keeping it simple. The 2 oval shapes represent two partners. At the top, the oval and circles are complete and the colors are brighter to show happiness. The bottom oval and circles are broken and dripping. They are also a darker shade to show that love is not always a happy thing. While it is cliche, I chose a red background as it is a universal color of love. I faded the background because love often fades over time. The abstract heart was added at the last minute to overlap and connect the two oval shapes that represent the partners.

Black and White

For our first exercise I played around with the fading. I really like how it looks and I think it is visually appealing against a black background. I'm not really happy with how this turned out but it was the first time with the exercise.
